Book 1 (Heritage) focuses on Daniel Haston’s (Hiestand’s) European roots in Switzerland and on the Rhineland of Southwest Germany, as well as his father’s (Henry Hiestand’s) family in Pennsylvania and Northern Virginia. Books 3 and 4 feature the known children of Daniel–David, Joseph, Catherine, Lucinda, Isaac, Jesse, Jeremiah, Elizabeth, and Daniel, Jr., plus Montgomery Greenville Haston, a Great-Grandson of Daniel who made a remarkable impact in the Haston homeland of White and Van Buren Counties, TN (Legacy).
The contents of The Life of Daniel Haston (2025 book) strategically parallel Chapters 9-16 of The Story of the Daniel Haston Family (2022 book), with hundreds of additional pages of historical family information. The adult lives of Daniel’s brother, Abraham Hiestand/Hestand, and sister, Mary Magdalena Gimlin, are minor themes in the book.
The book contains 490 colorful (8.5″ x 11″) high-quality pages, more than 350 images, and over 1,000 endnotes. It also includes a coffee table-style cover and an extensive index.
